Lookbook Viewer Overview

From desktop to mobile, our lookbooks need to be compelling

First iteration

The focus with this initial design was an exploration on how to take our conventional web browser aspect ratio (16:10) and make it work on a mobile device. With user-generated content we couldn't rely on cropping or repositioning page layouts in a portrait orientation. Further more, the embedded "product hotspots" relied on the 16:10 aspect ratio, they were placed (by users) in exact X/Y coordinates.

So we opted to direct users to rotate their device if the user was holding the phone in portrait mode. Understandably for some users this was not ideal. This led us to redesign both how our lookbooks were recreated, and how products were revealed.

Product discovery needed to be legible and at the same time visually integrated with the background image regardless of device.

As we moved to tailoring our experience for different devices we realized that offering distinct "lookbook themes" became a possibility. Since then we have designed and shipped two "mobile first" themes, more on that soon.
